Inside the Market: How We Source Our Seafood

People always ask us: "How do you get fresh Gulf seafood in middle Tennessee?" The answer is simple — we go get it ourselves.

The Tuesday Night Run

Every week, we make the drive down to the Gulf Coast. We have relationships with fishermen and dock operators we've been working with since we opened in 2016. When the boats come in, we're there to pick through the catch and select the best of what's available.

This isn't a phone order from a distributor. We're physically there, looking at the fish, checking the eyes, the gills, the smell. If something doesn't meet our standard, we don't buy it.

Why Direct Sourcing Matters

Freshness — From the boat to our market case in under 24 hours. Most grocery store seafood is 5-7 days old by the time it hits the shelf.

Quality control — We see every fish before we buy it. No surprises, no substitutions.

Price — By cutting out the middleman, we can offer a higher quality product at a fair price. You're paying for the fish, not a supply chain.

The Market Case

When you walk into The Seafood Place, the first thing you see is our market case — fresh fillets on ice, whole fish, shrimp, crab legs, oysters. Everything in that case arrived that week. We don't freeze and re-sell. When it's gone, it's gone.

"We started this because there was nowhere in Tullahoma to get real, fresh seafood. Eight years later, people are still surprised when they see what fresh fish actually looks like."

Take It Home or Eat It Here

That's the beauty of being a restaurant AND a market. You can sit down and let us cook it for you, or you can take it home and cook it yourself. Either way, you're getting the same quality product.

Visit us at 105 NW Atlantic St, downtown Tullahoma. Wednesday through Saturday, 10:30 AM to 8:00 PM. Call (931) 732-3663 to check what's in the case today.
